마석이주극장은 1999년부터 이주민들이 스스로 문화활동을 만들고, 함께 즐겁게 어울리는 작은 공동체로 시작했습니다. 친구들이 모여 서로의 이야기를 나누고, 이주문화 활동가와 아티스트들을 지원하며, 지역 주민과 함께 어울리는 열린 문화공간을 만들어왔습니다.

“나라가 가난해도 문화는 가난하지 않다”는 믿음처럼, 이곳에서 만들어지는 공연, 전시, 모임 하나하나가 이주민과 지역사회를 잇는 다리이자 모두의 삶을 풍요롭게 하는 문화의 힘이라 생각합니다.

앞으로도 우리는 함께 어울리며 배우고 즐기는 자리를 계속 열어가겠습니다.

Maseok Migrant Theater (MMT) began in 1999 as a small community where migrants could create their own cultural activities and enjoy time together. Friends gathered to share their stories, support migrant cultural activists and artists, and build an open space with local residents.

We believe that “a country may be poor, but culture is never poor.”

Every performance, exhibition, and meeting here becomes a bridge between migrants and the local community, showing the power of culture to enrich everyone’s lives.
